Obituary

On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, our beautiful, loving mother, Colleen Petersen Nuttall, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by many of her family members.

Colleen was born in Brigham City, Utah on November 28, 1932 to Royes John and Elva Leone (Bingham) Petersen. She attended Box Elder High School where she met Keith Jesse Nuttall. They were married September 10, 1948 in Preston, Idaho (later divorced). They were the proud parents of 11 children.

Colleen was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a testimony and love for her Savior Jesus Christ and practiced the principles of love and forgiveness taught by Him. She took great joy in serving as an ordinance worker and trainer in the Mount Timpanogos Temple.

The main focus of her life was being a devoted mother to her 11 children. She loved them with all her heart and always made herself available to them. Her love was also shared with many others who entered her home.

Colleen loved beautiful music. She played violin in the high school orchestra. After taking a long hiatus she was able to pick up the violin again. She played in the Pleasant Grove Orchestra for many years. For some of those years she served as president. She also served as a choir director for her church. She was able to share her love of music by teaching piano and violin to some of her grandchildren. She loved nature and enjoyed hiking, as well as taking drives up the canyon. She was an avid reader. She also had a love of gardening and had a beautiful row of peonies every spring.

Colleen was preceded in death by her father and mother and her siblings: Royes John Petersen Jr. (Pete), Gae Cowley, Donna Pack, Boyd Alan Petersen and Steven Bingham Petersen and by great-granddaughter, Lucy Belle Nuttall. She is survived by her sister Pat Prather and by her children Keith Jr. (Chris), Gaylene (Emil Hahn), Cory (Denise), Kevin (Diane), Christie, Debra, Linda Brooks, David, Julie (David Radford), Sherrie (“Walt” Walter), and Jennifer. She is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren - with more on the way.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 20th, 2021 at the LDS Stake Center, 575 E 800 N (Red brick Stake Center on north side of 800 North), Orem, at 1:00 pm. There will be a viewing preceding services from 11:30-12:30 p.m. A Live webcast of services will begin at 1:00 p.m. at www.walkersanderson.com. You are welcome to share memories and condolences with the family online at www.walkersanderson.com.

I was one of those people who always felt like part of the Nuttall family. I first met Corey when the family moved to Long Beach, CA. We soon became good friends. Later I became close friends with Christie and the rest of the family and spent many hours in the Nuttall home. Regardless of who was there, I always loved to ride my motorcycle over to the house and visit. There was always something fun going on. As I look back, I realize the common denominator was Coleen. She always made me feel welcome and important. She truly was one of the most loving, accepting, and positive people I have ever met. When I moved to Seattle in 1976, I lost the regular contact with the Nuttall’s. But we visited each time we were in Utah. The most recent time was about three years ago. Colleen was just as full of life as ever, very happy and positive. I will never forget the example she set.

Colleen was a wonderful lady. I experienced her loving and accepting nature on the many occasions I had to visit her home over the years. She certainly included all us 'outsiders' as part of the family. It was a pleasure to know her and to visit with her on those times at her home. Her children are a living testimony of her goodness. They are kind and caring as they obviously learned from their Mother.

I didn't know Colleen, but knew of her, through her sweet daughter, Christie, who always spoke of her with such love. My heart goes out to the family. I hope this song will help bring some peace and comfort https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhDWAhhPL1c

Colleen, was dearly loved by all who knew her. She was always positive, happy to see you and made you feel important. She always had a minute to listen to you. I always appreciated her smile, her hugs and good advice. She made me feel that I was adopted #12 child. She was in my heart my second mom.
Thanks for all the loving memories! I will miss you greatly. Love,
Steve
