Arrangements entrusted to Walker Sanderson Funeral Home for a private family graveside service. Condolences may be offered to the family and a live broadcast of the service may be watched at 10:00 a.m., Thursday June 4, 2020.

Vern A. Stratton, born November 13, 1926, died peacefully on May 31, 2020 surrounded by his family. Vern was a humble, gentle, sweet, kind man who will be missed by all who knew him.

When Vern met JoAnn Ercanbrack, he knew JoAnn was the woman he would marry and be with for eternity. They were each others love and support and recently celebrated 70 years as a couple. Together, they raised a family of eight, which eventually grew with many grandchildren and great grandchildren to surround them; his spirit lives on and continues through the generations. Vern cherished his wife and family and always said they were his greatest joy.

Vern graduated from Brigham Young University with his bachelors degree and continued his education at Washington State University where he completed his masters degree in horticulture. He was a brilliant farmer, successful businessman, and grew the best peaches ever. He was an educated man who had many career opportunities and chose what was in his heart, working the land, and growing fruits and vegetables for all to enjoy.

He answered the call for service and was a dutiful member in his church and community. Always generous, sometimes to a fault, and ever willing to lend a hand.

Vern was welcomed by his two sons and generations of family for a happy and joyous reunion in heaven.

We will always miss his generous kind soul and our husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa will always be embedded in our hearts.

What a beautiful service for a giant of a man. We know our son in law, Dustin Stratton, and our daughter, Sarah, will miss him terribly. Vern was someone they both looked up to and were proud to be part of his family. He will be missed by many. May you all find peace and comfort during this most difficult time. A Great "North Orem Patriarch". Vern was the most giving person I have had the chance of knowing on this earth. From Peaches and Ice Cream in the summer to Christmas baskets of fruit delivered to my door. He supplied the great Cherry wood for most of my 30+ years of putting on the "Deep Pit" BBQ for our ward. He tried to teach me how to prune my cherry trees and taught me about the goodness of a "Lambert" cherry.
We enjoyed visiting many times with Vern and Jo Ann in their homes both in Orem and Saint George. These will always be special memories in Ruby and my life. I am a better person for knowing and rubbing shoulders with him.
Vern and Jo Ann, Ruby and I love you dearly.
Marcus and Ruby Lunt.

I have lived by Vern and JoAnn for 32 years. It is my honor to call him my friend. He was always so kind and generous (many do not know how generous he was because he did not seek the recognition). He never complained when Mother Nature destroyed his crop because farming was unpredictable and he just took it in stride. He always welcomed me into his home and we had many great conversations about growing up in Orem. He reminded me that the cherry trees in my back yard he planted when he was just 17 years old. He also taught me that to thin peaches right the ground underneath the tree had to be cover with the. As I thinned my peaches yesterday my heart was heavy with the knowledge that he will not stop his truck and ask me how I am doing. I never heard an unkind word from him. I will always treasure my relationship with him and his ever supporting wife , JoAnn. I will truly miss this great man who is truly one of my choicest heroes. I am a better man for having known him. I send my love and condolences to his wife and great family, who continue to honor his name by their actions and friendship. I know we will see each other again my friend and I can hardly wait to embrace and share a few more memories. Love you, Jim Melville

I met Vern years ago when Hannah was about 7 years old and Sue invited our family to celebrate the 4th of July at Joanne and Vern's pool surrounded by the sweetest fruit trees on the planet. Vern joined us on the hot afternoon, after patrolling his trees and shared the secret to picking out the best watermelon. Slap it and if it is perfect, it will sound like Vern's palm smacking his leather workboot. That technique has served me well over the last 15 years. He was a gentle man and he will be missed. Love to all who loved Vern Stratton. xoxo Mary, Alan, Harper and Tallie Ness
